Designed by Paul Schulze, t his very heavy Eagle (over 30lbs packed) is a highly detailed work requiring all the master glassworkers' talents. This FLYING Eagle measures just over 14" long by 10" high.
Not to be confused with the Steuben Soaring Eagle, a much smaller design. Formed at the fire by hand from a single gather of glass, the clear billowing surfaces suggest flight and provide beautiful interplay and refraction of light. The long tail feathers are crenelated. The eyes are hand engraved. This very rare find is in new undisplayed condition with no chips, no cracks or nicks and NO display or bottom wear and is signed "Steuben" in diamond point script on the base bottom. You will be thrilled with this beautiful art glass. Design appearing in the "Masterwork's" section (showcasing Steuben's most costly pieces) of the Madigan Reference book. I have set a very fair price for a rare outstanding made in USA Steuben Eagle sculpture in collectible condition with no hidden reserve. Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. Renown as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Steuben glass was frequently the United States' gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no "seconds, " items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Since the glasswork's closing in late 2011 it is almost impossible to find new condition vintage designs like this rare Flying Eagle.
