Beautiful hand made writing set made in Germany between 1855 and 1865. In reasonable good shape with its original box. Kurz opened their pencil factory in Nuremberg in 1855 the competition was already fierce. The Grossberger & Kurz pencil were exported to many European countries and the USA. Eventually they run into financial difficulties in 1864.

A year later Gustav Adam Schwanhauser bought the small factory and brought it back on track with investments, foreign business and product innovations including the Stabilo thin-core colored pencil. Many of the larger and well known European pencil companies opened up a franchise in the USA. It appears that Schwan did the same, using the American spelling of Swan on its pencils manufactured in the US.
