Custom Iron Wood D-Guard Bowie USA Nicholson Rasp File Knife By Ray Richards. The knife is hand crafted custom. This knife is made from a Nicholson USA Rasp. USA Nicholson files or rasps are made of 1095 Steel or W1 carbon steel.

Both are high carbon steel, great for knife making. Flat ground edge blade, The steel was annealed first, custom made, quenched to harden, and tempered to make it a long time usable knife that will hold its edge. The length of the blade is 11.

The guard was hand forged to the shape. It is a D-guard with an S curve on back. This knife is based on a civil war bowie. It is a hidden through tang. The tang was tap and die threaded with a stainless steel cap.

Has a red G-10 washer on the cap. I built this as a traditional bowing.

The bowie and guard are hand sanded. Hand double stitched leather sheath. Single Snap design, I paint all my leather sheaths with a beeswax oil mix and then bake the sheath. This will give the sheath the tan color and provide a water resistant finish.

Polished, and etched with Ray Richards. Made in the USA, by Ray Richards. I have been apprenticing under Bill Lewis another knife maker in our area. Bill is a gunsmith and knife maker. He is almost 80, and is a master knife maker.

He has been my mentor since making knives for the last 4 years. Bill apprenticed under Roy Genge, and Roy apprentice under Bob Loveless.
