This beautiful highly detailed Lloyd Atkins design was only made for a brief period of time so it is quite rare, you could say highly ENDANGERED! This large beautiful sculpture has the superb styling and clarity that is a hallmark of Steuben. Blown and hand polished Hippo measures approx. 6" long by 3" tall with beautiful clarity and refraction of light and approx.

This is a detailed large hand made sculpture with tiny applied ears, indented nostrils and is a very complex design to produce at 2300 degrees F. This piece is new in box with no chips, no cracks, no scratches, no damage or gluing on of the tiny ears and NO display or base bottom wear. This Hippo is signed "Steuben" in diamond point script on the base bottom and was made in the USA at the Corning NY Steuben Glassworks of Steuben formula glass. You will be thrilled with this beautiful art glass. I have set a very fair price for an outstanding rare large new in box early Steuben design that is very hard to find without damage to the tiny ears.

Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. Renown as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Steuben glass was frequently the United States' gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no "seconds, " items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin.
